Abstract:

This study investigated the extent to which managers choose different media to convey good versus bad news. A sample of undergraduate students role-played a middle managers position in a large organization. Each was asked to relay several pieces of good and bad news to his or her subordinates. Results indicated that the managers used face-to-face communication to deliver bad news significantly more often than they used either the telephone or a written memo. Author
