The Army Training Battle Simulation System ARTBASS is now being developed to succeed the Combined Arms Tactical Training Simulator CATTS as the Armys most advanced command group training system. The present reserch assessed the effects on command group performance of the CATTSARTBASS technology supplemented by an Army Research Institute-developed diagnostic and feedback package. Measures of performance included information flow during planning and execution, simulation battlefied outcomes, and ratings of critical tasks. All performance measures increased significantly from the first pretest to the fourth post-test exercise day. In a previous experiment using CATTS without added feedback, there was less improvement in performance. It was concluded that CATTSARTBASS training is effective when it includes detailed diagnostic feedback.
