Abstract:

This report presents environmental and ship motion data obtained during the JLOTS II RORO Phase Trial conducted with the MV CYGNUS, a self- sustaining RORO ship. The operating environment, from 12 to 16 July 1983 in the Chesapeake Bay off Fort Story, was quite calm and hot. The waves were 1.5 feet 0.5 meters and less with light and variable winds. The results obtained from the measurements show that the heading of the ship will oscillate or - 180 degrees in light winds as the tide changes from high to low and back.
