Abstract:

The significance of dynamic biaxial material behavior of concrete in the study of structural response to seismic and other dynamic loadings is noted. A testing procedure is developed to examine this behavior for the case of monotonic, tensile-compressive loadings. The results of experiments for load ratios between uniaxial compression and uniaxial tension in which the time of application spanned from 10 min to 25 msec are presented. The tensile stress at failure is seen to decrease with an increase of the simultaneously acting compressive stress. The strength is observed to increase as the loads act more quickly, but the strains at failure are invariant with respect to loading time. Author
