Abstract:
A preliminary investigation of collisional effects on the magnetized ion-ion instability is made. It is found that ion-neutral collisions have a stabilizing influence in that they stabilize all growing modes for sufficiently large collision frequencies. On the other hand, electron-ion collisions have a destabilizing influence in that modes that are stable in the collisionless regime can be unstable because of electron-ion collisions. Applications of these results to the DNANRL laser experiment are discussed. Author
