Abstract:
The detection of a marine target with the aid of an active sonar necessitates a probabilistic model of the phenomena, and detection improves according to how well the model takes account of the various random and deterministic physical phenomena. The signal wave Zt received from a point source x of the target is described by a deterministic scalar or vector function Gt,x. Random reflection is characterized by a scalar multiplying factor Cx, randomly distributed according to a mixture of central Gaussian laws.
