Abstract:
In hydrocarbon solvents W2O-i-Pr6 HNMe 22 and WO0-i-Pr4 react to give W3OO-i-Pr10. Similarly Mo2O-i-Pr6 and WOO-i-Pr4 yield the mixed metal cluster Mo2WOO-i-Pr10 but the reaction between W2O-i-Pr6HNMe22 and MoOO-i-Pr4 proceeds further to give by oxo group transfer WOO-i-Pr4 along with other products. Attempted comproportionations involving Mo2O-i-Pr6 and W2O-i-Pr6HNMe22 with either MO-i-Pr5M Nb and Ta or WNPhO-i-Pr4 and failed to react. The new triangulo oxo capped alkoxides are isomorphous and isostructural with the previously reported Mo3OO-i-Pr10 compound. The electronic absorption spectra and electrochemical data are consistent wtih a common electronic structure and a gradation of properties for the replacement of Mo by W. Author
