Abstract:

Under sponsorship of the Tri-Service Medical Information Systems TRIMIS Program Office TPO, a computer system for analysis of electro-cardiograms ECGs was installed at 18 Medical Treatment Facilities MTFs in the Southern California area. The objective of the automated ECG system is to improve cardiac diagnosis and treatment in the military health care system by providing high-quality ECG analysis services, at a reasonable cost, to a large number of MTFs, many of which do not have cardiologists on their staffs. The computer system, CAPOC, was the subject of this evaluation of the costs and effectiveness of ECG services before and after automation. This report outlines the evaluation process and presents our findings.
