Abstract:

This report represents the fourth annual summary of research carried out under Office of Naval Research. The objective of this research is to obtain a better understanding of the metallic substrateorganic coatinginterface system so that improvements may be made in corrosion control of metals by painting. The report this year includes a summary of progress made in 16 different components of the program. These activities are arranged for convenience into those primarily concerned with a corrosion at the interface, b the chemistry of the metalcoating interface, c the properties of the coating, d the properties of iron oxides with particular relevance to the painting of rusted steel.
