The toxicity of the candidate disinfectant, food service chlorine-iodine type NSN 6840-00-810-6396 and trichloromelamine was studied by means of acute oral and dermal application to rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. The proposed use solutions of the complete disinfectant mixture were found to be nonirritating to skin or eyes and does not pose a health hazard risk from acute dermal or oral exposures. The complete dry mixture was corrosive to the skin and eyes and was relatively toxic in concentrated solutions by oral and dermal routes. Washing of the eyes was found to reduce the corrosive effects of the disinfectant.
