Two existing provisioning models using operational availability as the key operational characteristic for measuring system effectiveness are compared. The two models are the U.S. Army Selective Stockage for Availability Multi-Echelon Method SESAME and the Swedish OPUS VII. The SESAME and OPUS VII models and their problem-solving methods are described. Mathematical overviews of each model are examined. Differences between the models, their advantages and limitations are discussed. Each model is evaluated in terms of input parameters, required structure of systems, types of outputs, and model shortcomings.
