Electric propulsion offers significant advantages over the present gasoline engine propulsion system on a Remotely Piloted Vehicle RPV. The advantages are the result of technical advances in batteries, power transistors, permanent magnets and control methods. This report covers the ground flight test of an RPV using a lithium thionyl chloride battery powering a samarium cobalt brushless DC Motor.
