Evaluation of Potential Moderators to the Core Job Dimensions-Job Satisfaction Relationship.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the variables of age, tenure, military versus civilian status, and supervisors management style as possible moderators to the core job dimensions-job satisfaction relationship depicted in the Job Characteristics Model. Data was collected using a questionnaire developed by the Air Force Institute of Technology. Subjects for the study were 991 military and civilian employees of a major DOD installation located in the Midwest. Regression techniques were used to identify and evaluate the hypothesized moderators based on the criteria of differential predictability. Results indicated limited support for the hypothesized moderators of age, tenure, and military versus civilian status. No support was obtained for the hypothesized moderator of supervisors management style. While limited support was suggested for selected moderators, the overall pattern of results did not support any of the hypothesized moderators. Author
