A theoretical solution to the aerodynamicstructural two-dimensional flexible lifting membrane has been developed. The solution predicts lift, membrane shape and excess material length as a function of the tension in the membrane and the angle of attack of the membrane. The method is simpler than existing solutions and the results are in agreement with experiment. Wind tunnel tests on two-dimensional lifting membranes have been conducted at Reynolds numbers of approximately 1.3 million. Basic aerodynamic data and membrane tension data were obtained. Author
