The Special Data Collection System SDCS program, Project T4703, is a continuation of work begun under the Long-Range Seismic Measurements LRSM program in 1960. This work is directed toward advancing the seismic detection, identification and location techniques necessary to detect and identify underground nuclear explosions. This report describes the work performed under the SDCS program during the period from October 1977 through March 1978. The basic instrumentation for the SDCS program consists of eleven units of the Portable Seismograph System, Geotech Model 19282. This system includes three- component long-period and three-component short-period seismographs recorded on slow-speed FM magnetic tape, plus necessary calibration, timing, and support equipment. The system is designed for quick deployment and is capable of collecting laboratory quality data using one qualified electronic technician as an operator.
