The Vehicle Integrated Management System VIMS processes data inputs and puts out reports to be used by Air Force vehicle fleet managers. The system was designed to give managers information to support their decisions. The problem centers around the fact that the VIMS has not been reevaluated since 1975. In the last eight years there have been changes in the information requirements of decision makers. In addition, there have been technological advances that have been made in the science of information gathering, processing, and reporting. This thesis examines the VIMS in the light of these changes and suggests modifications to bridge the gap between the VIMS outputs and decision makers information requirements. A five-step process was used involving structured interviews of decision makers and surveys of VIMS outputs and Air Force regulations. Presented in this effort are the shortfalls of the VIMS and the recommended corrective actions. Author
