Abstract:

An experimental 94 GHz transmitter and receiver were developed for measuring amplitude fluctuations due to clear-air turbulence. Atmospheric scintillation theory is discussed, and experimental conditions are described. Atmospheric fluctuations could not be observed above the transmitterreceiver noise, thus establishing an estimated upper bound that was about a factor of ten lower than fluctuations predicted from optical theory.
