Abstract:

The ultimate objective of this work is to establish reliable finite element procedures for predicting the effect of structural damage, for example due to a shock wave, on the collapse strength of submarine hulls. However, it is first necessary to demonstrate the validity of finite element calculations for undamaged structures.
