Abstract:

This report presents three different levels of analytic techniques for determining mass and velocity of dynamic fragments fragments in motion. The first level describes recent advancements for analyzing images on flash radiographs. This advancement has reduced the amount of physical labor and inaccuracies, but the procedure can still be made less tedious by introducing the system which constitutes the second level. This second level consists of a proposed technique for eliminating the need to digitize the film manually. The third level is the development of the Automatic Data Acquisition System ADAS, which is the ultimate in automatic recording of dynamic fragment images. This system will minimize the tedious handwork for the analyst and will significantly increase the accuracy of the results. It may also be found that the ADAS will be useful for studying other physical phenomena such as shaped charge jet and self- forging fragment formation.
