Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore an interesting alternative to traditional methods for reducing flooding and erosion. This alternative method which was developed and practiced by George Palmiter in northwestern Ohio, North Carolina, and Tennessee, appeared to deserve a close examination since it had strong local support and appeared effective while at the same time being inexpensive and ecologically sensible. Further, it does not require heavy equipment. However, the method is labor intensive, does not provide high levels of flood protection, and must be performed periodically in an area in order to maintain effectiveness. Author
