Abstract:

The objective of this work is to develop guidelines based on kinetic and thermodynamics solidification theory for prediction and control of rapid solidification processes. In particular, segregation effects and rules governing the formation of equilibrium and non-equilibrium phases, will be investigated. Areas where significant improvements in alloy properties can be produced by rapid solidification will be emphasized.
