Nondestructive Tests for Corrosion in Fuel Tanks.

In a previous report, a method was presented for detecting corrosion on stainless steel surfaces based on the rapid catalytic decomposition of hydrazine by iron oxides. The feasibility of this method was demonstrated first with the chemical reagent itself as the test sample and later with rusted samples from a fuel tank diaphragm. In this report, we discuss the details of the procedure to test nondestructively an actual fuel tank in the laboratory. As a result of the tests, trace amounts of rust were identified in the tank.
