Abstract:

The finite element program MAGNA Materially and Geometrically Nonlinear Analysis, developed for the nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of complex three-dimensional structures, is described. This program is applicable to large structural response problems involving bars, membranes, beams, plates, shells, and three-dimensional solids, experiencing large displacements, finite strains, large rotations, and plastic deformation. The theoretical basis of MAGNA and the numerical procedures employed are described in detail. Several sample analyses are presented to demonstrate the range of capabilities of the program. Instructions are provided for operating the program, modifying storage capacity, preparing input data, estimating computer run times, and interpreting the output. Computer graphics utilities available for the display of input data and analysis results are also described. Author
