The purpose of this chapter is to describe some of the physics and chemistry of highly conducting polymer systems ranging from the inorganic SNx to organic materials such s CHx, polypyrrole and the polyphenylenes 17. It would be very difficult in a single chapter to adequately review the already extensive literature on these materials. Presented is a coherent overview of the current status of highly conductive polymers with reference to several review articles for a more extensive survey of the literature.
