Abstract:

A key issue within the military community during the mid 1970s was the notion of military unionization. This issue could again surface in the mid 1980s. This essay addresses the issue of military unionization, within the US Armed Forces. The paper examines the history of military unionization, foreign armed forces unionization, unionization in America, both public and private sector, and provides the rationale for why the military should transition to unionization. The armed forces should recognize that the potential of unionization in the 1980s could become a reality and the military should take the initiative.
