Abstract:

Thermonuclear burn in cylindrical targets imploded by fast plasma linear devices are considered. The benefits of limiting the thermal conduction and trapping the alpha particles as might be expected in the presence of a strong magnetic field are studies. It will be extremely difficult to achieve good thermonuclear burn in cylindrical targets with fast plasma liner devices. However, a large neutron flux 10 to the 15th power - 3 X 10 to the 16th power can be achieved, which may be a powerful diagnostic in determining the quality of the plasma implosion. Author
