Abstract:

With the implementation of NISTARS and NAVADS which provide the Supply Centers with state-of-the-art automated warehousing, material handling, and document processing, the Navy has the real-time information and warehousing assets necessary for the development of an optimal local delivery distribution plan which will improve supply support to all Supply Center customers. Essential to the development of an optimal local delivery distribution plan is the development of an information base to use as a measurement standard. This study analyzes Naval Supply Center, San Diegos local delivery system with the intent of determining onload and offload times for unit pallet loads, driving transit times to each customer site, and the volume of material delivered. The results of this analysis may then serve as a data base for the development of a truck scheduling algorithm to optimize personnel and local delivery vehicle assets. Author
