This report describes a technology program for a candidate Fly-by-Wire FBW Control System with an auxiliary back-up mechanical control system for use in a potential test helicopter. In addition to covering the basic program, it includes an updated discussion on the 4-Valve Actuation Control Concept V4-ACC. The program included the design, fabrication, test, and evaluation of a laboratory model of the candidate actuation system. The system basically consists of the V4-ACC module with a mechanical back-up control that can be used as a permanent function or to enhance safety during the initial phase of an anticipated development flight test program. The objective of this program was to evaluate the V4-ACC mechanical system relative to its potential use in a potential test helicopter. The evaluation primarily related to operational characteristics, failure mode effects, and the automaticmanual reversion to the mechanical back-up control system. The objective was accomplished by developing a laboratory test model. The laboratory model of the V4-ACC has been evaluated within the scope of this program and is recommended as a valid candidate for use in a potential test helicopter.
