Abstract:

This report presents the results of a program conducted by Garrett to investigate a fluidic speed governor based on a laminar speed sensor for a dula-channel fuel control. The program provides a control system with requirements that are deemed necessary to provide a military gas turbine-powered vehicle with battlefield survivability and minimal restriction on the capability of completing the vehicle mission. The study showed that the laminar speed sensor can be used for closed-looped speed control. It has the advantages of simplicity and a decreased number of components as compared to other approaches, yet it shows a higher signal-to-noise ratio than presently used devices, provides directional sensing, and has an efficient mechanical-pneumatic interface.
