This report describes the major products developed under the first year of the Early Training Estimation System ETES development project. The Early Training Estimation System ETES is designed to deal with two major deficiencies in existing technologies 1 the lack of a systematic tool for describing, storing, and updating system concepts and for transmitting this information to all of the various participants in the developmentacquisition process and 2 the lack of a comprehensive set of training analysis tools which are appropriate for the early phases of design. The ETES will have four major components a System Description Technology, training estimation aids and procedures, human performance simulation models, and a users guide. This yearly report outlines specifications for the SDT development, provides a description of the physical and operational features of a prototype SDT concept, and describes the analytical procedures underlying the development of this concept.
