Abstract:

A dual beam apparatus was developed which simultaneously measured particle size D32 at the entrance and exit of an exhaust nozzle of a small solid propellant rocket motor. The diameters were determined using measurements of diffractively scattered laser power spectra. The apparatus was calibrated by using spherical glass beads and aluminum oxide powder. Measurements were successfully made at both locations.
