Coal mininghandling operations, as well as those of other powder-using industries, are occasionally interrupted by explosions and fires as a consequence of uncontrolled, fugitive flammable dusts. Damage to life and loss of capital are the unsatisfactory results. Hence, the development of powerful fire extinguishingsuppressing agents to stop these holocausts has become an increasingly important scientific challenge in todays energy and safety conscious world.
