During June 1980 the Arkansas Archeological Survey conducted tests of site 3LA97 the Cedar Grove site under Contract DACW29-80-M-1870 with the New Orleans District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The test excavation isolated two historic components and two Caddo components and established the significance of the Caddo V A.D. 1700-1800 component. Site 3LA97 was occupied mainly during Caddo V times, and least studied, least known period in Caddo archeology, and a period completely unknown in the Caddo area of Arkansas. It is recommended that further research be directed toward the full range of archeological problems, from the most basic one of archeological unit definition and precise chronological placement, to environmental questions of man-land relations, and to the specific research questions that arise with the discovery of a unique and long sought site on the threshold between prehistory and history.
