Abstract:

The detonation of a nuclear device on or near the Earths surface generates a lofted cloud composed of dust and other debris. The objectives of this report are to provide 1 an overview of dustdebris cloud phenomenology and 2 examples of cloud characteristics. Physical phenomenology associated with surface bursts e.g., crater ejecta and airbursts e.g., shock reflections and sweep-up layer formation are discussed and examples are presented.
