Abstract:
Electromagnetic pulse EMP shielding, isolation, and protection for emergency operations center type communications equipments has been reduced to a minimum size and cost through development testing, utilizing a concept of shielding, single entry, and in-line transient voltage protection. Shielding for direct induced EMP is balanced against protectors for direct connected EMP to result in EMP voltages at equipment input connections on the order of 5 to 10 volts peak with simulated EMP fields on the order of 10 kVm and direct connected EMP of thousands of volts peak.
