Abstract:

We study the electromagnetic properties of a system consisting of a perfectly conducting sphere and a dielectric half-space driven by a laser. We show that the local field in the space between the sphere and the plane is strongly enhanced, making the system an interesting candidate for surface enhanced spectroscopy. The dependence of the local field on the incident frequency and the spatial distribution of the enhancement factor are presented. Possible applications are discussed. Author
