Abstract:
The purpose of this effort was to 1 determine the feasibility of developing a hazardous chemical container for use in offloading hazardous chemicals from endangered vessels at sea, and 2 provide conceptual design for such portable containers. This effort resulted in the development of several feasible concepts for the containment of pumpable liquid hazardous chemicals with a specific gravity of up to 1.9. However, while determining the technical feasibility of developing a portable, flexible hazardous chemical container, this effort also points out the various developmental risks of each concept. Continuation of this effort, to further define the associated risks, has been deferred pending the results of other container efforts within this project area. Author
