Abstract:

The sidewall of a stainless steel nitrocellulose NC boiling tub was thermally insulated with a 2-inch-thick layer of Foamglas. Evaluation of steam usage was conducted and an energy saving of 155.8 kg steam per hour per tub was realized. No adverse effects on KC properties were detected due to boiling tub insulation. The design criteria information for insulating other NC boiling tubs was established.
