Abstract:

It was conclusively demonstrated that aqueous foam can effect significant greater than 10 dB reductions in gun muzzle blast peak sound pressure level. Reductions of more than 10 dB were attained. In addition, muzzle flash was eliminated completely. Containment of the foam in a muzzle-mounted canister appears to offer a feasible and operationally acceptable method of exploiting the phenomenon.
