Abstract:
Brushy Creek Mine Water Clarification Dam, Missouri Inventory Number 30330, was inspected. The St Louis District SLD, Corps of Engineers has classified this dam as having a high hazard potential. The estimated damage zone length, as determined by the SLD, extends approximately two miles downstream. Within the damage zone are several occupied dwellings. The contents of the downstream hazard zone were verified by aerial reconnaissance. Our inspection and evaluation indicate the embankment is in generally good condition. No evidence was found of significant erosion, slope instability, disruption of the vertical or horizontal alignment of the dam, or detrimental vegetation. Seepage and stability analyses comparable to the requirements of the Recommended Guidelines for Safety Inspection of Dams were not available, which is considered a deficiency.
