Abstract:

Kolences theory of the performance of computing systems is restated. In this development, the basic subsystems are reduced to two logical subconfigurations and software units. These and the three fundamental variables, work, time and storage occupancy are all defined using as a basis a single logical construct, the set of instantaneous descriptions of instruction executions. Basic results are given for time relationships utilizations and concurrency levels, work relationships distribution numbers, and work and time relationships absolute power and relative power are derived. Interpretation of variables used in other approaches in software physics terms are indicated. Author
