The kinetics of the thermal degradation of a rigid polyurethane foam used to reduce gun wear was determined to illustrate how Guggenheims method could be applied to polymer decomposition. The polyurethane foam decomposed in two distinct steps. The first order activation parameters for each rate coefficient are k sub 1 2.0x10 to the 10th s -1EXP-134kJmoleRT and k sub 2 1.2x10 to the 10th s -1EXP-154kJmoleRT.
