Lake Sophia Dam consists of an earth embankment approximately 340 feet long with a maximum height of 29 feet from the downstream toe and a crest width of 9 feet. The upstream side of the dam is protected by a small amount of riprap and the downstream face is covered with grass. The flood discharge facilities for the dam consist of a concrete open-channel spillway located near the left abutment. The outlet facilities consist of a 12-inch-diamenter corrugated metal pipe extending through the embankment along the original streambed. Based on the evaluation of existing conditions, the condition of Lake Sophia Dam is considered to be unsafenonemergency due to seriously inadequate spillway capacity. The flood discharge capacity was evaluated according to to the recommended procedure and was found to pass approximately 15 percent of the PMF without overtopping the dam. Results of the breach analysis indicate that downstream damage would be significantly increased due to a dam failure.
