Abstract:

A review of the literature on team training is presented. The source material was derived from government documents, industry reports, journal articles, and books. The objective of this effort was to conduct a comprehensive review of the team training literature in order to establish a baseline of what is currently known and to identify unresolved technical issues relevant to Air Force team training. In addition, recommendations concerning the most important areas for Air Force team training RD were to be made. An attempt was made to be as comprehensive as was considered practical. Documents dated prior to 1960 and the preponderance of research on small group behavior within a social psychological context were limited to a few representative review articles. Hundreds of source documents were investigated to obtain just over 100 relevant reports that focus on definitional issues individual, task, and team characteristics of team training the role of feedback performance objectives measurement and evaluation and the potential of instructional system development for effective team training. The appendix contains an annotated bibliography. The review is intended to serve as a basis and a resource for the improvement of the state-of-the-art in team training. Author
