Abstract:

With recent advances in optical fiber technology, it is now feasible to consider data communication systems with speeds up to 1000 Mbs. Because of their high bandwidth, low delay, and low error rate characteristics, optical fiber communication systems seem to provide an almost ideal transmission medium for high speed local networks.
