Abstract:

This report presents the description, analysis and results of a set of measurements made to obtain statistics about the distortion of the frequency spectrum amplitude across the IF band of a 3-level-partial-response, digital line-of-sight, microwave radio system. The length of path was about 90 km. Results show that for line-of-sight systems 1 Large values of distortion 1 dBMHz were observed during multipath fading events 2 Diversity reception looks very promising as an effective tool in counteracting these distortion effects 3 Multipath received-signal-level statistics can be used to predict the frequency and severity of this type of distortion on a line-of-sight-path and 4 The 3-level-partial-response modulation system used here was very robust in terms of its susceptibility to the severity of amplitude distortion observed on this path during the measurements.
