Abstract:

This work examines interband transitions near the bandedge, alkali type ious embedded in dielectrics, and two-photon resonances in three-level systems for the purpose of four-wave mixing and phase conjugation at the iodine laser frequency. It also examines the time-dependent properties of unstable resonators with a saturable gain medium. The third order susceptibility and the conjugate reflectively of semiconductors are calculated. Near the band edge the reflectivity is enhanced. The unstable-resonator field is represented in terms of a series of empty resonator modes, and a set of first order in time differential equations for the expansion coefficients is achieved. There is a stable solution and a bistable one, with self-sustaining pulsations. Author
