Ion-plated aluminumgraphite AlGr composite material has been characterized in terms of microstructure, tensile properties, and fractography. Longitudinal and transverse tensile strengths were found to be superior to those of AlGr composites fabricated by liquid metal infiltration. More importantly, the AlGr precursor tape was thin and flexible enough to allow cross-plying and selective reinforcement in complex shapes. Author
