This thesis focuses on events in Southeast Asia which contributed to the causes of the Chinese invasion of Vietnam in 1979. It is shown that Vietnam was largely responsible for the Vietnam-Cambodia conflict and for the internal political chaos within Cambodia after 1975 that local hostilities in the Indochinese peninsula were intimately related to worldwide communistanti-communist struggles and to the Sino-Soviet dispute and that the Chinese invasion of vietnam was largely in response to the earlier Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia.
