A Proof of Existence of a Unique Solution to the Problem of Adaptive Beamforming Subject to Linear Constraints.

A description of adaptive beamforming in the presence of linear constraints is given. It is proved that if the number of constraints does not exceed a stated maximum then the adaptive process determines one unique beam pattern. The proof is first written out explicitly using elementary algebra, and second in matrix form. The matrix form has the advantage of compactness and makes possible the writing of a simple formula for the weights which themselves define the beam pattern. Author
